Linear array feature

Is it possible to get a feature that creates an array of duplicates linearly rather than rotation ally as exists now. With choices of 1 2 or 3 dimensions? Thanks.

Hi Richard,

How do you imagine linear duplication with 3 dimensions? Would you like to draw the initial curve/path to create the linear and apply a linear duplication on it?

Thanks,

Evi

Thanks for the response. The way I imagine this working is similar to the rotary array function works. Create and select a line, surface or object, then activate the linear array function. The menu bar would have options to create/input one to x repetitions in each of the cardinal directions and as the rotation array function works, the control circle would control the space between each repeated image in the array. A change in view would probably be necessary to get the spacing on the third dimension. Does this make sense?

Hi Richard, thanks for checking in with us!

This feature is still in our request list, a we have been working hard on features such as dimensions and advanced surface tools which we are excited to announce in the near future. This one hasn't been lost though.

I did have a question on this one however-- would this be used to make something like a spiral stair case for example?

Thanks again for checkin in on this and for your patience.

Possibly but I was thinking more along the lines of a series of circles set an equal distance apart, or think of laying out a parking lot.  Creating a painting pattern where the lines are set an equal distance apparent to creat a row, then mirrored to create a parking row, then the whole row is repeated equally spaced perpendicularly to create a complete Lot

given the current implementation, without the capability to exactly repeat the spacing across the drawing, it's impossible to create this type of pattern.

Hi Richard,

I think that maybe a better and easier way to do this would be to be able to create a 'brush' with a set of curves that you could then change the repetitions on. This would give a similar result as you are seeking, but could also open up the door for a lot of other features such as stitching patterns or rivet patterns. You could make it either linear or freeform, and change the distance that the object (circle or parking lot space) is repeated.

Thoughts?

Hi Richard, to be clear, we don't have that feature yet, it would be something we need to build, but is an idea that I thought I'd run by you.

OK, Misunderstood, I guess i was jumping the gun..  i just find it extremely difficult to position curves exactly

Hi Richard have you tried using the snapping tools in combination with the grid? The snapping tools can be found in the lower right hand corner (by default) under the icon of a magnet. Have you found this to work for you?

I've tried that but I have had issues in getting the grid to the correct interval once I've selected the lines and curves I want to duplicate.  I'll try some ideas you've generated in my mind to see if they work better.
Thanks for your help.

Richard
