Exporting - STEP, OBJ, and add importing STEP and OBJ

It's great that models can be exported from uMake in OBJ and IGES formats (even though IGES has perhaps been a bit obsolete since it was replaced by STEP).

So I'd like to request a STEP export feature.

And, even much more importantly, I think it would be great to be able to IMPORT models in OBJ and STEP formats into uMake.

It would enable users to continue working on models started elswhere, or use other 3D models as guides. I think this would greatly expand uMake's capabilities.

HI Mark,

With uMake Pro, you can currently export uMake files in STEP format as well-- uMake currently exports in OBJ, IGES, and STEP. We are looking into more formats such as SVG, DXF, DWG and 3DM.

We are also currently researching an import feature as we know how useful this will be for users. We want to make the whole workflow easy, intuitive, and stable, so this will take a bit of time to do but it is a high priority for us for sure. In terms of formats, we are looking at STEP, IGES, OBJ to start with and maybe a few others. IF you have other more universal formats you would like to see for the import, let us know.

Thanks for the request! Happy to discuss more!

Hi Nyko,

You are very welcome.

For me, STEP and OBJ will work very well as they are both good with Keyshot, and STEP is pretty much universal for CAD software. So the formats you are going to introduce first will cover my needs.

Thanks.
